Easton Road Railroad Bridge

In 1926 the railroad crossing at Easton Rd had become quite dangerous. Therefor in 1928, the crossing was reconfigured, resulting in the construction of the railroad bridge. This impressive project necessitated the lowering of Easton Road for several blocks both north and south of the actual bridge. Interestingly enough the level of the tracks wasn’t altered.

Trains kept using the tracks and many businesses remained opened during the construction project. The image above is looking north (towards Mt. Carmel Ave)

Temporary sidewalks and scaffolding were rigged in front of the affected businesses in the construction area.

When construction was complete those buildings still in place needed new fronts and entrances at the former basement level. Stairs gave access to the business level
